Extended bus service at Hamilton International Park

Bus travel to and from Hamilton International Park (HIP) is about to become easier with an extension to the existing bus service.

Tenants of HIP have been given free bus passes for all employees, allowing them to travel on the X5 and 205 Irvine’s bus services from Hamilton and East Kilbride to specially installed bus stops in the Park.

The X5 service has now been given Scottish Executive approval to be extended to incorporate Torhead Farm, Hillhouse, Meikle Earnock, Low Waters Road and Hamilton International Park between East Kilbride and Hamilton bus stations. The additional service will run twice an hour using new buses which are all Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant.

William Hill, managing director of HF Developments, said: “We were delighted to give our support to Irvine’s application for a bus route development route. We have seen an encouraging uptake from our tenants for the free bus passes so I am sure that the extra service and frequency will be well used.”

Stephen Kelly, director of AWG Property, added: “At Hamilton International Park we are committed to the workforce in the surrounding areas and we are also committed to enhancing the public services to the Park.”

Gordon Graham, general manager of Irvine’s, said: “The buses which will be used on this route will be brand new and as well as being environmentally friendly, they are also low floor DDA compliant buses suitable for the disabled and the elderly. This fast and frequent daytime service will be beneficial to shoppers, students and workers alike. With cheap day returns and 10-journey tickets available it makes it much easier to leave the car at home.”
