‘It’s a Knockout’ Raises Over £25,000 For St Andrews’s Hospice

The eagerly awaited ‘It’s a Knockout’ competition, sponsored by Strathclyde Business Park, was deemed a resounding success after raising over £25,000 for St Andrew’s hospice in Airdrie.

Twenty two teams battled it out over the weekend, in crazy competitions of skill and wit to raise money for the Lanarkshire charity and win the coveted ‘It’s a Knockout winner 2007’ title.

The 3 Top Teams Performance Awards over the weekend went to Mondo’s Marauders of Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, Frew’s Follies of James Frew Ltd and Hill’s Angels of H F Developments.

Mondo’s Marauders had the best overall score and will hold a specially commissioned It’s A Knockout Trophy for the next 12 months.

All 220 participants received a commerative medal from St Andrew’s Hospice Fundraising Manager, Katie Mulgrew, who thanked the event sponsor, Strathclyde Business Park, and praised the members of all 22 teams for their fundraising on behalf of the Hospice and for bring such energy, enthusiasm and fun to the event.

William Hill – Managing Director of HFD Group and owner of Strathclyde Business Park, who sponsored the event said: “I would like to thank everyone who took part in the competition and for raising so much money for such a worthwhile and important charity.

“The feedback from the event has been excellent and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. With eight teams already signed up for next year’s event, it is without a doubt shaping up to be one of Lanarkshire’s annual good cause highlights.”

St Andrew's Hospice provides specialist palliative care for the people of Lanarkshire through 20 beds for end of life care, 12 beds for frail, elderly sick patients, a Day Hospice with facilities for an additional 80 patients, a Care at Home Team, and a range of support services for families of patients.

Through these facilities the Hospice provides care to 120 Lanarkshire patients each week, the large majority of whom are suffering from cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. To maintain these specialist services the Hospice Fundraising Team has to raise over £1.8 million each year.

Due to the overwhelming success of this year’s event, the Hospice are already organising next years fun filled ‘It’s a Knockout competition for Friday 30th May, Saturday 31st May and Sunday 1st of June.
