Driving over £60,000 for HFD's Charity Partners
A flurry of recent activity has resulted in over £60,000 being raised for two of HFD’s key charity partners – Yorkhill Children’s Foundation and St Andrew’s Hospice.
The 2010 “It’s A Knockout” event – now into its fourth year – has raised £50,000 for Airdrie based St Andrew’s Hospice. Held in Strathclyde Country Park over the last May bank holiday weekend, 56 teams took part in a variety of foam and water covered challenges to raise vital funds for the Hospice. Sponsored by HFD since inception, since 2007 the event has raised over £175,000.
The event was well supported by local businesses and communities, with a number of HFD’s occupiers, including Tarmac, Virgin Media, NG Bailey and MSA Britain, competing during the weekend. With 75% of teams who participated already signed up for next year’s event, the Hospice have been delighted with the response.
Katie Mulgrew, Hospice Fundraising Director at St Andrew’s Hospice, said: “It’s fantastic to see the Lanarkshire business community come together and raise so much money for the Hospice.
“Our Hospice has the challenge of raising £44,000 each week to fund vital services for acutely ill patients from North and South Lanarkshire, and this cannot be achieved without the ongoing help of the local community and fundraising events like It’s A Knockout.”
With water being a common theme to recent activities, a very wet and windy Gleneagles was the location for HFD’s first Charity Golf Event, which took place on the 8th of June in support of Yorkhill Children’s Foundation. 96 (fool) hardy golfers took to the Kings and Queens courses for an afternoon of great golf, followed by excellent food and after dinner entertainment. The day’s endeavours raised over £14,500 which will go towards providing some of the 'extra' services and pieces of equipment for sick children and babies from all over Scotland who are treated within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
William Hill – managing director of HF Developments – commented: “We have been delighted by the response of our Park tenants and business associates who continue to give so generously of their time, money and resources for our charitable causes.”
“We are very conscious that times are difficult for everyone, and even more so for our charity partners. We are committed to helping, in our small way, to help them positively impact the communities that we live and work in.”

Notes to Editors: St Andrews Hospice St Andrew's Hospice provides specialist palliative care for the people of Lanarkshire through 26 beds for end of life care, 6 beds for frail, elderly sick patients, a Day Hospice with facilities for an additional 60 patients, a Care at Home Team, and a range of Support Services for families of patients.
Through these facilities the Hospice provides care to 120 Lanarkshire patients each week, the large majority of whom are suffering from cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. To maintain these specialist services the Hospice Fundraising Team has to raise over £2.2 million each year.
